Phone Dependent

Another rough day at work. You’ve just been so busy with everyone piling work onto you that you have almost no free time during the day. In order to keep some semblance of sanity, you head to the bathroom for one of the few short breaks you’ll have today. As you made your way slowly to the bathroom, you passed by Jenny, your 20 year old coworker. She never really seemed to be doing anything, and at her age it was a miracle that she even got the internship at this company! You knew it was only because her father was the boss, otherwise she probably wouldn’t have even got an interview. She walked past you with her face buried in her phone, no doubt texting her friends and updating her social media. It was the newest model of iPhone, and she had a bright pink case that could be seen for miles. As she passed you, she nearly tripped and fell on a rogue chair someone left sitting out. You chuckled softly at her misfortune. As soon as she regained composure she looked right at you. “Something funny?” She said with frustration. You felt a bit awkward realizing that she heard you, but decided to just go with it. “Maybe if you weren’t so dependent on that thing you could have been watching where you were going.” You say, feeling oddly bold. She scoffs, “Okay old man, at least I have a life outside of this place. Maybe you should try getting one.” She snaps her fingers with a devious smile and turns to walk away. As soon as she does, you feel your phone vibrate in your pocket. You wonder if Jenny sent you something, but she doesn't have your phone number. You shrug and continue on to the bathroom, trying to forget that awkward encounter.
You arrived in the bathroom and entered a stall. When you sit down, curiosity overtakes you, and you pull your phone out to check what the vibration was. It turns out it wasn’t from Jenny, it was just twitter sending you a notification. You quickly went into the settings and turned off notifications for twitter. You never use it, but it came preinstalled on your phone. This was the first time you ever received a notification from the app before, but you just shrugged it off. After finishing your business, you wash your hands and reluctantly return to your desk. You pull your phone out of your pocket and place it on the desk beside you as you work.

You returned to your work, making your way through the slog of the day. You answered emails, solved problems, and fixed people’s technology. For some strange reason though, you kept looking over at your phone every once in a while. It was beginning to seem smaller for some reason, but that's not possible so you just ignored it. After a while of working, you heard it vibrate again, though it sounded a bit different. You looked over and picked it up.

An iPhone? Was this your phone? Something about it felt strange. You had always been an iPhone guy right? When the new iPhone 11 was announced you just had to go out and get one. You had all these memories, but they felt strange. You tried to shake them off and move on. You flipped the phone over to see what the notification was. It was from Instagram. You felt odd once more thinking about this notification. Had you downloaded Instagram? Just then you remembered that you did in fact download it, but you only use it to check up on old friends and family, you never post. You delete the notification and put the phone down. As you get back to work on the computer on your desk, you look down at the hand that you held your phone with. You checked out your nails and smiled, they looked great even after a few days.

You remember painting them just a few days ago, and are pleased with how well the polish has stayed on. As you get back to work though, you take extra care not to chip them while you work. You couldn’t help but keep glancing over at your phone while you were working. You just had this urge to check it again. You knew you couldn’t keep using your phone while working, so you decided to head to the bathroom again as an excuse to use it, hoping you could get it out of your system. As you made your way to the bathroom, you brushed a few strands of hair out of your face. You thought for a moment about needing a haircut, but then remembered getting one last week. You also remember the stylist doing something else to your hair, and when a few light blonde strands fell in front of your eyes again you remembered her bleaching it for you. It was a bit of a statement for a guy, but you had gotten a few compliments already. You arrived in the bathroom and pulled out your phone to check it. There was a new notification from Instagram this time asking if you wanted to add a profile picture to your account. You were a bit confused as to why you didn't have one already, especially considering how you have posted a few times before. You figure it just slipped your mind and went to the mirror to make sure you’re ready to take a picture. You leaned in close to make sure your makeup looked good. You wished you had it with you so you could do touch ups, but you remember leaving it at your desk so what you’ve got will have to do. You straightened your hair and puckered your lips in the mirror, pleased with your look. You grabbed your phone and posed for a few selfies. You looked them over to find the best one. You settled on one finally, pleased with how you look. You upload it to the app and then head back to your desk.

You arrive back at your desk and place your phone down. You get back to work, but this time much slower. Your thoughts are being drawn more and more to your phone. People must have seen your new profile picture by now and you hoped people like it! After a while, you were able to finish your current project despite periodically checking your phone every so often. You sat back in your chair and pulled out your phone to check instagram. Just then you received a text from Jenny. You were a bit confused for a moment, but then remembered giving her your phone number soon after you first met.

You were so excited to finally be getting out of this place for a while. The day so far had been torturous, even though you had your phone. You logged out of the computer and grabbed your phone. You were leaving your desk when you remembered to grab your purse. It was sitting on the corner of your desk. You grabbed it and headed to meet Jenny in the break room. When you arrived, Jenny was standing there typing away on her phone. “Hey J!” You called out to her. She looked up from her phone and smiled. “Hey Love! Ready to go?” She said, using her nickname for you. As you approached her you noticed that you were the same height as her. You seem to remember being taller than her, but people don't just shrink so you shrug it off. The two of you decide on a place to eat and walk there together. As you make your way to the restaurant, the two of you make light conversation. To any outsider it would seem like the two of you had been friends for years. Eventually you arrive at the restaurant and are seated outside. You look down at your clothes and smile. “Thank god I wore this tank top today, its such a nice day outside!” You say. “You just wanted to show off that hot body of yours though didn’t you.” Jenny says with a teasing smile. You think back to all the time in the gym you spent working on your fitness. “Well i worked hard for these abs and arms so of course I want to show them off!” You giggle. You pull out your phone when you feel another buzz from your purse. Its another Instagram notification. Your most recent post had received 100 likes! You pull it up and smile, it really is a great picture so you’re glad its getting attention.

The waiter arrives at your table and you order some food. Along with that you order a fruity cocktail. The waiter looks at you strangely and asks how old you are. “I’m 21.” You say, handing him your ID for proof. You felt a bit odd saying that, but it was your age so you brushed it off with a smile. He hands back your ID and walks off to get your order started. “I’m so jealous, I want to be able to drink in public!” Jenny says with a pout. “Don’t worry J, your birthday is in a few months and then we’ll both be able to order cocktails in public!” You say, suddenly remembering when Jenny’s birthday is. After a few moments, the waiter brings your drink over. You take a sip and smile, it's delicious! “I need to get a pic of this for Instagram!” You say, opening up your camera. You snap far too many selfies of yourself holding the drink in different positions. You sifted through them all one by one until you found the best one. You posted it to instagram with a smile. You love sharing pics on social media. Jenny smiles at you as she pulls up Instagram on her phone. “Look, I’ll be the first to like it!” She says.

The two of you make casual conversation while you wait for your food to arrive. As you chat, you slowly sip your drink. With each sip your body goes through more changes. You already look like a young woman from behind, but some things are missing. Each sip causes a bit of growth in your chest. Your breasts grow slowly, finally stopping at a petite, but perky size. Your food finally arrives and the two of you dig in. You still make conversation as you eat, this time talking about your workout routine. As you chat, the effects of your workouts begin to show as your ass begins to plump up. It stops growing before it gets large, but then muscle begins to build as you gain a healthy and fit tone all over your body. Eventually the two of you finish your meals and pay the checks.

“Ready to head back to the office?” Jenny asks. You sigh, “Not really, but we have no choice.” You both start to walk back to the office. As you approach the office, you feel your skirt riding up a bit. You pull it down and straighten it out a bit. You shrug as you think about how that's one of the drawbacks of wearing such a short, tight skirt. Momentarily you wonder why you aren’t wearing pants like usual, but then you push that thought aside, remembering choosing this skirt to wear this morning. Jenny and you walk towards your desks. Luckily the company put the two of you right next to each other. As you set your purse down on your desk, you have a flash of a desk in the IT department. That confuses you as you’re just an intern and don’t know the first thing about IT. You flatten out your skirt and take a seat. Without skipping a beat you grab your phone from your purse and start checking Instagram. Nothing much has changed since the restaurant, but you just love scrolling through people’s feeds.

After a few minutes of that, you realized you needed to use the restroom. You grabbed your purse and headed to the bathroom. When you arrived, you had to do a quick double take before entering the women’s restroom. You went into a stall and sat down to do your business. As soon as you were done you set your purse on the counter and washed your hands. This time you had actually brought your makeup with you and so you were able to do some quick touch ups to fix smudges and errors brought about by your meal. Before you left the restroom, you of course had to take a picture. Grabbing your phone, you took a few mirror selfies. None of them really were what you wanted, but you then had the idea to put on your sunglasses. You took a few more pics and then found your favorite of the bunch and posted it just as you did the last one.

Pleased with yourself, you blew a kiss in the mirror and headed back to your desk. As you walked, the final change took place. You returned to your desk to find a small nameplate on your desk reading “Lovita.” You were momentarily confused before realizing that this is, of course, your name. Your parents had visited the Czech Republic for their honeymoon and decided to name you after someone they met there. It was an abnormal name to be sure, but you liked it. “Hey Love, cute bathroom selfie!” She said, pointing to your Instagram post. You smiled, and as you sat down, all remnants of your former male life were erased. The first thing you did after taking a seat was start using your phone again. You were supposed to be working, but you only got this internship because Jenny’s dad is the boss and you knew he wouldn’t care.

Just then one of the staff walked by your desk and saw both you and Jenny on your phones. He sighed. “Maybe the two of you would get some work done if you weren’t so dependent on your phones.” You looked over at Jenny and rolled your eyes. “Okay old man, at least I have a life outside of this place. Maybe you should try getting one.” I chuckle as he walks away. Jenny starts to giggle with you. Working with your best friend was so much fun!
